Stand up comedy at Forest Web in the Axe and Fiddle in Cottage Grove

If you want to see a video  of me doing stand up comedy: check this out. I warn you it does have an Fbomb and a couple of naughty words about human sexuality, (cum, masturbate x2 and clit)  but thats quite common in a stand up comedy set, and just a part of the beauty of the human experience, right? But I can and usually perform this set for kids totally clean. I was just super excited about my drawings and wanted to show them off to the nice eco-friendly folks at Cottage Grove Forest Web.

I am available to do children’s parties and bar comedy gigs. I think I’ll soon do a house party show in Fairbanks, and I’m always looking for more gigs!

Dutchess

Saturday I got to see Dutchess (Anchorage) open for The Scurvies and The Mythological Horses.

They played heavy riff based rock and roll like ACDC or The Darkness. Great solos, and some fun queer lyrics.

They have a four song ep free on the web here. There is a female vocalist on the record too.

I drew the drummer Johnathan and Katie who were dressed as if attending a Ren Faire.

Clucking Blossom: Harm, Barcelona Boys Choir, Dangerlot and more!

Clucking Blossom X was held in June in Fairbanks at the Dog Mushers hall. Here are a few photos of me playing taken by my dad, Todd Paris.

This last one is taken by my pal Nick Meurlott with a wide angle lens!

See the pretty stage? I helped Elliot and Mike put it together and used a screw gun to attach the fake flowers to the front. Thank you Kendra, Jody, Jack, Elliot, Matt and Donald for putting it together! If you have more photos I could share here, let me have them please! Here are some more photos of drawings I made.

Barcelona Boys Choir contain’s zero boys from barcelona, they play energetic country rock and roll and have a trombone! I love the bands “Naked Men” and “Not Enough Flannel” and this seems to be the bearers of the torch

Dangerlot is a fun new band that plays positive happy punk music. Nick is so talented and wacky, I love his energy on stage. He said, “there’s a totally legal and safe way to get your friend high, you just put them on your shoulders!” Here is a link to his blog.

100_3862100_3861    Harm played a beautiful set. If you haven’t caught them yet… uh, go see them sometime.

This band didn’t play at clucking blossom, its just a bonus! I happened to ink and color this like 6 months after they played.

i draw nearly every show I attend, but sometimes I never have time to ink, color, photograph and post them here. These drawings are old, but the bands are still good.

THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS at Roseland, Portland, OR.

100_3856 100_3855

It’s not every day you get to see your favorite band play live in front of you. For many, they will never get the chance at all. This band started the year I was born (1982) and I have tried to learn to play their songs since I was 13. I have sang their songs in my head for at least 18 years. TMBG played with Marty, Dan and Dan at Roseland Ballroom May 8. They played many old songs from Lincoln, Flood, and Factory Showroom. They even played the bizarre, “32 footsteps” and the Cub cover “New York City”

They also played some of my newer favorites “Answer,” “When you’ll die” “Can’t Keep Johnny Down” and of as a finale/encore the entirety of “Fingertips!” which is insane and a total delight. I was blissfully singing along “I walk along, darkened corridors!” What a great band! I heard that at a recent show John commented “this song is from the middle of our career, 2001.” and John responded, “uh, I think THIS is the middle of our career.” If so they would play another 33 years when they are 89 years old! Well, I hope I can see them again and that it will be as great a show as this was. My cup truly runneth over. I am so blessed to get to see artists of this caliber and talent. We live in a glorious age for live music and graphic novels and media arts of all kinds. i don’t know what to say except: “I’m not a real doctor but I am a real worm, I am an actual worm. I live like a worm and i like to play the drums.” “32 footsteps leading to the room where the paint doesn’t want to dry… 32 footsteps running down the road where the door reaches the sky”

I found this great article over at Spin. Its an interview where they recall what they can about the process of recording every one of their albums. There are also interviews at the Onion AV club where they discuss the writing process, how they work together, and The process of writing songs.

I think seeing them has really inspired me to make some music videos. I made some last year for my raps about screen actors, but they were only “half assed” attempts. I should challenge myself to really make animation and maybe make a video for some other artist than myself first.

Nellie McKay

I caught Nellie at The Shedd and her show was delightful.  I love her bravery for being a prominent performer with a powerful (if sarcastic) anti war, feminist message.100_3854

She played “The Dog Song” and “Mother of Pearl.” As well as covers from her new cd from artists as diverse as Frank Zappa, the Kinks, the Cyrkle, the Doors, The beatles and other more obscure 60s artists.

100_3858

Here are a few of my drawings, I gave them to her and she was gracious and friendly. She told me Rufus Wainwright was her nemesis but I forgot to ask if she knew Jason Trachtenberg. She was flattered by the drawings and said she’d listen to my cd in the car driving between gigs with her mom! What a class act! (and what a goofy, charming smile!)

100_3853 100_3852 100_3851Regarding this drawing she said “ooh, I’m a ghost watching myself.” and she kept asking, “You drew these tonight? How?”
