Awesome show, especially, ” you can beat me daddy, but you’ll never beat me!” This band always has fantastic horn riffs.

Madrona is a charming and talented band from the woods near Eugene, Oregon. The core of the band is the couple jake and Amanda, they sing harmonies and tell ghost stories and tales of lost love. They are joined by Josiah, Malcolm and Tiffany. Check them out online.j
ERA CODA plays beautiful complicated music. In the vein of Maps and Atlases and Thought trade. I also hear echoes of Danny Elfman, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Radiohead, Frank Zappa and Morricone Youth. They haven’t recorded yet but dear god their songs are amazing.

They shared the stage with Beef Bottom, an excellent bar band who plays covers of Queen, the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elton John and coolest of all, The Band. Now just learn some Traveling WIlburies and some Black Keys buddys.
Lojia are very heavy dark funk with elements of metal.

When I was teaching art at Mecca, Sometimes I’d start the day by showing students drawings I made over the weekend, to model to them that artists should practice every day. I don’t have any students to share with anymore. 😦 May I share them with you dear reader?
Every Year in February Eugene has an Asian Celebration with dancers, music, vendors and art! Here are some of the drawings I made this year.

These are Belly Dancers who sometimes dance at MEDGE nights at Cozmic Pizza.
Here are some more of the dancers who shared their heritage and culture on the main stage.

A real highlight was this Koto music. She was joined by a Kalimba (or a Mbira?) and an accordion and piano

Here are a few more miscellaneous drawings, I didn’t finish coloring all of them. The Taiko drums are always exciting!

I have heard Jake and Amanda play a few times before at open mics, but this was the first time I have seen them with their whole band. Wow, the harmonies, the fiddle, stand up bass! Amazing melodies and charming songs. They play later this month at Grrlz rock events, though their calendar isn’t updated to show that.
Here at Mecca in Eugene, OR, I am teaching a Collagraph class. Here are some examples of what can be achieved with the process.

The original collagraph matrix- a eugene landscape. I taped and glued elements to the surface and carved away with an exacto blade.
Eugene’s best jam band! ELEVEN EYES
They opened for young Organist Wil Blades, who plays with Stanton Moore and Billy Martin and many many others! I made the error of spelling his name with two “l”s but I fixed it in the second drawing… colored pencils… nice tools.
